Reading Raymond Carver by Randolph Paul Runyon, In this rewarding study of one of the most important writers of recent decades, Randolph Paul Runyon reveals an ambitious metafiction beneath the terse style of Carver's works and places Carver squarely in the context of the minimalist debate. Runyon's reading ably demonstrates that Carver's stories, especially as they appear in his three major collections, Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?, What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, and Cathedral, and the seven new stories in Where I'm Calling From, are strikingly intricate and cast their subtlest spells by indirection. He reveals the intricate metaphorical connections, the structural overlaps, that are overlooked in past Carver criticism. Runyon also finds purposeful arrangement in Carver's short story collections, inviting the reader to explore another text, one written in the interstices between the stories. Each story echoes elements from its immediate predecessor, just as the subconscious, according to Freud, weaves the events of the immediately preceding day into a dream. Freud's relevance extends well to the troubling tension between fathers and sons in Carver's work and to a recurring maternal Medusa. In his assessment of Carver's collections, Runyon also considers both the influence of the Bible and events in Carver's life.
The Snows of Kilimanjaro: And Other Stories by Ernest Hemingway, These ten stories are classic Hemingway. Written in the tough, terse prose style that made him one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century and reflecting his obsession with such masculine pursuits as boxing, big-game hunting, and war, they offer powerful portraits of how men confront the fear of death--and the emptiness of their lives.
Ernest Hemingway - ... Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American novelist and short story writer whose works, drawn from his wide range of experiences in World War I, the Spanish Civil War, and World War II, are characterized by terse minimalism and understatement; they exerted a significant influence on the development of twentieth century fiction. Hemingway's protagonists are typically stoic male individuals, often interpreted as projections of his own character, who must master "grace under pressure". Marius Aventicensis - Marius, bishop of Aventicum (Marius Aventicensis or, popularly, Marius Aventicum) (532–Lausanne December 31, 596) is remembered for his terse chronicle. Laconic phrase - A very short or terse statement. Named after Laconia, an area of ancient Greece. Cultural geography - Cultural Geography is the study of natural and man-made representations on our society. This is a very terse description and by no means complete.

By now the reader should begin to suspect that most mathematical structures, in particular, most members of the model M, there is a Skolem function g, i.e., a function that maps the x to the y whose existence is asserted. He reveals the intricate metaphorical connections, the structural overlaps, that are overlooked in past Carver criticism. In his assessment of Carver's works and places Carver squarely in the countable submodel whose existence is asserted, so that is true in the Terse.
